It is an incredible honor to serve you as the president and CEO of USGBC, GBCI and Arc. While today is day one in my new role, I have been a member of the green building movement for many years. When I joined USGBC more than two decades ago, I could have never imagined that LEED would reach millions of people, shaping homes, offices, schools, hospitals, stadiums, airports and entire communities in over 180 countries and territories.
The impact and tools that we know today stem from ideas brought forward by you, the members of our community. Collectively, we have fundamentally changed the built environment for the better. What we’ve learned and achieved is remarkable—and demonstrates how LEED is a proven business strategy and an essential solution to the urgent challenges we face, such as climate change, health inequity, resource depletion and more. I am committed to focusing and deploying our tools and expertise to accelerate progress toward achieving your goals and our shared mission.
I believe that we are at a turning point and we have an unparalleled opportunity to make an even greater impact both inside and outside of our industry—and it starts with each of you. Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll seek your input to help us improve our performance, strengthen our community and shape the future of USGBC, LEED and our movement. Your voice matters and we want to hear from you—your ideas and feedback are critical to helping us help you create a better built environment for all.
As I said at Greenbuild this year, I am tremendously proud to be a part of this community and of what we have achieved together. And I am especially grateful for this opportunity to encourage, support and celebrate your work building thriving, healthy, sustainable and equitable communities around the world. I thank you for your support and look forward to moving forward together.
